About Baryons
Baryons is building the next generation of AI-driven flourishing and conversation platforms — intelligent systems that help people grow, reflect, and thrive through meaningful dialogue. Our products combine voice, memory, and human insight to create interactions that feel natural, personal, and alive.
As a science-backed, patent-pending organization, we’re defining a new category of human-AI connection — one that’s grounded in psychology, neuroscience, and the science of human flourishing.
About the Role
We’re seeking a Database Administrator / Engineer with deep expertise in modern data platforms to support the growth and performance of our AI and application infrastructure. This role is responsible for architecting, tuning, and maintaining multiple database systems across SQL, vector, and NoSQL environments.
You’ll work closely with engineering, product, and AI teams to ensure our data layer is secure, fast, resilient, and built to scale — supporting both traditional application workloads and advanced machine learning / data lake use cases.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain database solutions across:
Relational: SQL Server, PostgreSQL
Vector Stores: PGVector or equivalent vector extensions
NoSQL: Document or key-value stores as needed (e.g., MongoDB, Cosmos DB)
Data Lakes: Databricks or similar distributed storage/analytics systems
Develop and maintain highly available and scalable database architectures.
Perform performance tuning, query optimization, indexing strategies, and partitioning for large-scale systems.
Implement and monitor replication, backups, disaster recovery, and failover strategies.
Manage security, access control, and data governance across multiple environments (Dev, QA, Prod).
Support integration with AI and analytics pipelines, ensuring data integrity and performance.
Collaborate with engineering teams to design data schemas and indexing strategies optimized for application and AI agent use cases.
Implement observability and monitoring across database layers for performance and reliability.
Contribute to automation of provisioning, migration, and scaling processes.
Evaluate emerging database and vector technologies to support evolving product requirements.
Required Skills & Experience
5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator / Engineer supporting production systems.
Advanced knowledge of:
SQL Server (performance tuning, indexing, Always On / replication)
PostgreSQL (including advanced indexing, partitioning, extensions)
Vector databases / PGVector or similar
Experience with NoSQL platforms (e.g., MongoDB, Cosmos DB, DynamoDB).
Exposure to Data Lake / Data Engineering technologies (e.g., Databricks, Delta Lake, Parquet, Spark).
Strong understanding of distributed database architectures and replication strategies.
Demonstrated expertise in query tuning and system-level optimization.
Experience with high availability, failover, and backup/restore strategies.
Strong skills in database security and access control.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
Experience with AI/ML data pipelines and vector embeddings use cases.
Familiarity with Terraform / Infrastructure as Code for DB provisioning.
Knowledge of GCP / Azure / OCI cloud data offerings.
Familiarity with real-time or near-real-time data streaming architectures (Kafka, Event Hubs).
Experience supporting multi-tenant environments.
What Makes You a Fit
You are passionate about performance, reliability, and elegant data architecture. You enjoy working with cutting-edge vector and AI data infrastructure. You thrive in a distributed, fast-moving environment where data is a critical product foundation. You balance engineering excellence with practical operations and automation.
